On install saw there was a camera app which I selected to install, but of course I’ve forgotten its name 
can someone please remind me? Save me from having to install cheese or something similar.

guvcview
That’s the one I use; pretty sure that is one on the install list.

Depending on what you need to do with the cam you might also be able to use ffmpeg.

I’m pretty sure you can use pacman query options to find the installed webcam application. Never done it myself, so I don’t know what the proper syntax would be.
yes, pacman -Qt will search locally installed packages, still couldn’t find whatever it was…
