Trying with tint2

Hi Archlabers!

I am trying to configure tint2 and I have managed to do some small things like I want.
I have 4 workspaces and they get very well shown in the panel. I can not get the icons to change size in the “workspace area”. I have changed size in tintrc but I must have missed something because I need monoculars to see them.
I also had problems getting icon for nitroshare to show in notification area so after some hours “trying” I also installed stalonetray for notification.

Anyone with a hint or three?

Here is a “snippet” of my tint2rc

# System tray (notification area)
systray_padding = 8 2 4
systray_background_id = 5
systray_sort = right2left
systray_icon_size = 24
systray_icon_asb = 100 0 35
systray_monitor = 1
systray_name

# Launcher
launcher_padding = 5 0 5
launcher_background_id = 5
launcher_icon_background_id = 5
launcher_icon_size = 26
launcher_icon_asb = 100 0 0
launcher_icon_theme = Numix-Circle
launcher_icon_theme_override = 0
startup_notifications = 1
launcher_tooltip = 1
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/exo-terminal-emulator.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/exo-file-manager.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/geany.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/org.manjaro.pamac.manager.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/share/applications/org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent.desktop
launcher_item_app = /usr/"

I have given icons 24p in “notification area” but only get about 8 or thereabout.
In launcher 26p and that seems to be accurate!

If your padding plus icon size is larger than the panel it will step down to the next available size.

Set icon_size to 0 for automatic sizing.

Ha ha! Of course! Was to eager to get going and then “self-blind”.

Thanks a lot!!

Yes! That is maybe the best solution!

Thank you very much!!

Hi again!

Now the icons are starting to grow! Link: July 2020 Screenshot Thread

You are both solvers!!

(I do realize that I have some reading to do! Just got the man-page open!)

Glad that it s settled @womp .

Props to @Head_on_a_Stick @natemaia

Have you seen the documentation? It’s top drawer:

I found 20 good pages in a few minutes!!
This is also good : https://www.mankier.com/1/tint2

Thanks again!!

Did you get this issue resolved? If the icon shows in stalonetray, it should show in tint2. Make sure the tint2 system tray is enabled in the panel_items, and read the system tray section in the link HOAS provided - that link is the developer’s page and he keeps it up to date with new features.

It’s not solved yet. I will look into it!

Is there normally an icon for nitroshare available?

Yes. Black-n-white with an N.

I am getting closer…

womp

I think I am close now!
After disabling stalonetray I got an empty area left of the clock. But it wasn’t empty only the icons didn’t show. I am now using the the option “systray_icon_asb =” and they are now visible! I am not able to make the icons look “good”! Closest I have gotten so far is “asb = 50 40 20” but it must be possible to get it more “natural”.

I will continue tomorrow!

I am still up.
Changed icon-theme to my favorite numix-circle! Now system tray looks better!

The default configuration for the system tray usually works well:

# System tray (notification area)
systray_padding = 0 4 2
systray_background_id = 0
systray_sort = ascending
systray_icon_size = 24
systray_icon_asb = 100 0 0
systray_monitor = 1
systray_name_filter =

default tint2rc

you should also have /etc/xdg/tint2/tint2rc for an example.

Edit - saw your configuration in the other thread; I see what you’re trying to do now.
