Ranger bashrc and vim **SOLVED**

Hello all. I am stuck. I can not get vim to be the default editor. I have changed it in my bashrc file and when I use ranger to open the file it opens in nano. Thanks Mike

What precisely are you putting in .bashrc?

export EDITOR='vim' I imagine?

that’s exactly what I put.

export EDITOR="/usr/bin/vim" this works but it is not permanent. After a reboot, it is back to nano.

On my install, the default shell is zsh, I changed the .zshrc to:

export EDITOR='vim'

and files open from ranger in vim.

Is your shell zsh or bash?

Awesome that was it! Thank u so much. Mike
