I’m seeing qtile gaining popularity at /r/unixporn these days. Has anyone used it?
Yes.
It’s actually a pretty good window manager with the default configuration, even better if you know python - it’s like awesome wm in that you can write your own modules/widgets.
I didn’t use it too long since I don’t know python. I had to rely on other configurations.
It’s pretty smooth though, fairly low on resource usage.
Sounds like I need to check it out.
Give it a shot; there are plenty of shared configurations if you don’t know python.
I think I just might.
Looks interesting. I have to practice python anyway, so this will give me the perfect opportunity.
I spent several evenings with qtile, trying to make it slightly more similar to what I’m used to. I modified the oboingo example config for it to detect the number of connected displays. It still does not behave perfectly well, but looks not bad:
If case someone would like to give it a try, I published all the necessary files on GitHub. Take a look at README.
