Meet the Machine

Meet the Machine, Part One.

This machine is hooked to the flat screen. The power supply has a noisy fan, probably dying. The video card has no HDMI. The best it can do on the flatscreen is 1024 X 768 with a adapter I bought for $9 shipped.

Specs after this upgrade:

Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33
DDR3 Memory - 8 Gb. Max 16 Gb.
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.6 GHz (Haswell)
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2 64-Bit HDMI DVI-I
Power: Cooler Master RS-500-PCAR-D3 500W ATX

Here’s the $9 adapter. Powered by USB port. audio input, VGA in - HDMI out

An old WIFI router acting as a switch.

The wiring is a mess.

The sub-woofer is in the bookcase, with a cutout.

Package came in today, over on the workbench.

New, larger power supply, 4 port switch with uplink port, fanless video card with HDMI out.

Workbench ready for surgery.

The victim.

Mobo striped of power supply, video card, and SSD.

Power supply and new Video card installed.

The new video card was missing a screw, so I took one from the old card.

SSD get hooked to SATA1.

Ready to go.

Back in place. Wiring a little better organized.

It works!

Yay, 1080p.

The 4 port switch came without a power supply. I have two laptop power supplies, one is 9 VDC with the correct connector. The other is a 12 VDC supply with the wrong connector. I little surgery is in order. Need to open the switch and make sure the center of the connector is +DC,

Wow, lots of work & experiments !

Top job.

This was the first in a series of exposés on my computer systems. Stay tuned. Maybe I should have called it the Hardware Pron Series.
