CUPS Broken?

Canon TR4500 Series - USB connection

It was working fine the last time I used it a few days ago. Today print jobs end up in the queue but don’t go through to the computer.

I get this:

 ~]$ lpstat -p
printer Canon_TR4500_series disabled since Sat 22 Jan 2022 04:48:55 PM -
	Backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb does not exist!
[drew@archlabs-drew ~]$

There was a recent upgrade (I think I recall) to:

  • cups 1:2.4.0-4
  • cups filters

I downgraded to the previous versions using pacman cache but the problem persists.
I reinstalled CUPS but the problem perists.

Any clues?

When this has happened on my systems, I can usually fix it by uninstalling and re-installing the printer using the cups web interface.
