Cracking sound on poweroff

Hello there,

My HP notebook makes 5 to 8 loud cracking noise every time it I try to poweroff (shutdown or reboot).

I don’t have any special audio tools other than what comes with ArchLabs installed.

Is there a way to get rid of the noise somehow?

Hi @onoma has this issue occurred with any other OS or distro?

Hello, @sevenday4. Currently no issues with dual booted Win10, and I don’t remember anything like this with Manjaro or ElementaryOS or Lubuntu

You can check the systemd journal:

journalctl -b -1 -r

^ That shows a reverse listing of the entries for the previous boot.

Okay, we wanted to eliminate a possible hardware issue.

Not sure if your problem is the same as the one I get, popping or cracking at start up and shut down, opening and closing any media player etc. but I found a solution in either the Arch forum or Arch wiki, don’t remember which!
Go to /etc/modprobe.d/ and create a file called ‘modprobe.conf’ and put in the line ‘options snd_hda_intel power_save=0’ and reboot.
If it is the same problem it will stop it,it works on any hardware, not just Intel,as my system is 100% Intel free, and it stopped that horrible noise just before it drove me mad!
