I hadn’t encountered this problem on Manjaro or Antergos, am I missing a codec or something? It’s really annoying.

im not on AL atm, so i cant remember if the needed plugins are loaded( i think it should already be installed by default). anyways, try installing those good, bad, ugly codecs things 
Make sure you have x264 installed
Had the same on FF , don t remember how I fixed it .

Hmm… Reinstalling seems to solve it. I guess something went wrong during the installation process.
